Islam Makhachev: 'My style is bad for Dustin Poirier'

Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev headlines the UFC 302 fight card on June 1 in Newark, New Jersey against former interim titleholder Dustin Poirier.  Makhachev acknowledges that Poirier, a legendary and dangerous opponent is not a good match for “The Diamond.”   

“I know what I’m going to do against him (Poirier).  It’s just a matter of protecting my neck from the guillotine.  Makhachev joked, “That’s all.” New York Post Sport.  “He’s a legend.  Dustin is already a legendary figure.  He is a veteran of this sport.  He is a real problem.  He’s got good striking.  “His weak point is his grappling and wrestling, but he’s got a good guillotine.”  

“My fight style is bad for Dustin because we saw his fight with Max Holloway and with other people that have good striking.  Dustin is the boxer I believe has the best in this sport in my division.  Sincerity, he is better than everyone.  Makhachev went on to say that nobody could beat him in the striking.  “But for a fighter with good wrestling and grappling skills, he will have bad points… He lost to Khabib [Nurmagomedov] He is a good wrestler and grappler.  He lost to Charles Oliveira.  It’s because, in my opinion my style is bad.
