Kayla Harrison takes down Holly Holm during UFC 300

Former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm welcomed two-time Olympic Gold medalist and former PFL champion Kayla Harrison to the octagon at UFC 300 on Saturday.  

Holm entered this bout ranked number five in the women’s 135-pound weight division.  She last fought in July 2023, losing to Mayra Bueno Silva via submission before the result was ruled a no contest after Bueno Silva tested positive to a banned substance.  

Harrison last fought in November defeating Aspen Ladd by unanimous decision in a fight that took place at 150 pounds.  Harrison was a little unsure about her performance at 135 pounds, as it was her debut.

Harrison landed a jab after the two had touched gloves.  Harrison kicked the inside leg after Holm had circled around on the outside.  Harrison closed the gap and Holm locked in.  Harrison threw Holm on the ground, but Holm immediately flipped her.  Both women got back up but remained in the clinch.  

Holm knocked Harrison to the floor, but Harrison won first place.  Harrison delivered two right-handed blows.  She sat up and fired two more powerful shots.  Harrison was still hulking Holm midway through the first round.  She delivered clean elbows….
