Maycee Barber was hospitalized for nine days following her UFC 299 victory

Women’s flyweight Maycee Barber cracked the Top 5 rankings with her UFC 299 win over Katlyn Cerminara on March 9 in Miami, Florida, but the celebration was short-lived.  Barber announced on Monday that after her UFC 299 victory, she spent nine consecutive days in hospital.  

Barber posted on Instagram, “Well, these past few weeks have been quite a ride with lots of highs as well as lows.”  “Following this fight, i spent 9 days at the hospital getting tested and treated for a infection that they believed was a combination of things from Strep a to Staph. Barber said that being in the hospital for 9 days and not knowing a definitive answer was extremely difficult. She had a fever of 105 degrees, low blood pressure and HR and very little oxygen.  

“Despite multiple IV antibiotics over several days, the doctors were unable get my fever down, which led me to develop Pneumonia. It definitely wasn’t what I had planned and was honestly very scary at times. There were a few moments where I wasn’t sure if I was going to be okay, but I know that whatever happens was meant to happen and that it’s all just another piece of the puzzle of life,” She continued….
