Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier first fought in UFC 299 Then he wasn’t. He is now. It’s been a busy Thursday afternoon for ‘The Diamond’ on social media.

Dana White announced last month that Poirier will face rising lightweight contender Benoit St-Denis in Miami on March 9, one month before the massive landmark event to be held in Las Vegas. Fight fans were excited for this match-up as it was a unique one in a division which has been dominated by top fighters battling each other round-robin style for several years. Poirier appeared to have a bad day when he was knocked out. took to social media writing, “I’m still fighting but my fights are off.”

Ariel Helwani is the host of The MMA Hour, reportedly spoke to Poirier who revealed that “there was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn’t come to terms.”

Why is UFC announcing matches they have not yet signed? It is not uncommon for UFC to announce fights they have yet to sign.
