Daniel Cormier doesn't want to see Sean O'Malley vs. Ilia Topuria

Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley puts his title on the line for the first time against Marlon “Chito” Vera in the UFC 299 main event on March 9.  If O’Malley wins, and he predicts that he will, he wants to face featherweight titleholder Ilia Topuria at the Sphere on Mexican Independence Day.

Both men have just been crowned champions, and their respective divisions are ripe with competitors.  Former two-division champion Daniel Cormier doesn’t want to see them fight, or at least not yet.

“I know what I do not want to see.  I don’t like to see Topuria fight Sean O’Malley.  I don’t need to see those guys fight just yet because neither of them have defended their championship,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel.

Cormier said, “I don’t think we should continue to let these guys get a belt then leave the division immediately.”  “That’s how it was with Islam [Makhachev] The following are some examples of how to get started: [Alexander] The division was not cleared by Islam.  He’s made two title defenses against Volk.  He weighs 45 pounds.  He’s never defended a belt against a lighter.  Volk had cleared out the division with that fight.
