Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor last fought in July 2021 losing to Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout at UFC 264.  McGregor was injured in the fight.

The Irishman is coached The Ultimate Fighter 31, last summer opposite lightweight contender Michael Chandler.  Both men are expected to face off in McGregor’s return.

Why hasn’t McGregor yet fought?  UFC CEO Dana White answered that question during the UFC 298 Post-Fight Press Conference.

“The first issue was that he fractured his shinbone.  He was still recovering.  This was one reason… The other problem is he’s f**king rich,” White said.

White went on to say, “Conor McGregor does not need money.”  White continued, “Conor McGregor is a very wealthy man.”  Conor is a great guy and we will be happy with him whenever he comes.  We’ll be delighted when he fights, but money complicates many things.

“He has just finished filming a movie.”  He has to do press for the film and he has obligations.  He’s keen to fight, but it will depend on what happens.

White responded, “I don’t know,” when asked if McGregor could never again fight in the UFC.

McGregor turns 36 this July.  Three years ago, “Notorious”, a.k.a. McGregor, stepped on the scene in July.
