Anthony Smith has Sean Strickland beating Dricus du Plessis in four rounds

A lot of people have weighed in on the UFC 297 scoring in the main event middleweight title bout between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis.  UFC President Dana White scored the fight for Strickland.  Robert Whittaker, former middleweight champion and UFC president, scored the fight in favor of Du Plessis.  

As the fallout from the decision continues, former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith weighed in with his scorecard.  

“I’m kind of catching a lot of sh*t for this but I really thought Sean won four rounds.  Smith stated on the Believe Me podcast.  

“That doesn’t mean it wasn’t close.  I thought the rounds were close, but I believed that Sean won 4 to 1.  I’m not upset Du Plessis was the winner.  I don’t believe it was a robbery.  I didn’t believe any of it, but I thought that Sean Strickland was the champion.  I didn’t place much importance on the takedowns since he didn’t do anything.  He did not control him for a long time.  There was not any damage.  No submission attempts were made.  “I just didn’t notice much, especially with the new rule that takedowns are position changes,” said Smith.  

Smith may have won the fight, but he did not…
